Plunge into Alberta’s icy lakes in support of Special Olympics.

Every dollar you raise goes towards more than 3,000 Special Olympics athletes representing 150 communities across Alberta.

The Polar Plunge challenges people to bravely jump into Alberta’s frozen lake waters. It’s a great way for everyone—individuals, organizations and businesses—to get involved in support of Special Olympics and show winter who’s boss. The minimum age to plunge is 16 years old and requires a parent or guardian to sign the waiver. We want safe and happy plunging for all!

Check out our official Polar Plunge Season Opener Media Release.

Earn extra incentives along the way when you raise more funds. You have five opportunities to take the plunge across the province. Each plunge is a different party you can be part of!

Do a solo icy swan dive or grab some friends, make a team, and get ready for the coolest party you can have on a frozen lake.

Not So daring? Show your support.

to the event

Save the date, and come cheer on participants crazy enough to make the plunge.

Put your money to work instead of testing your freezing level. Your donation will go towards Special Olympics programs across Alberta.

A Plunger

Do you have friends daring enough to freeze ’em for a reason? Support their efforts and help them reach their fundraising goal.

Goal: $250,000 Raised: $160,207

How It Works

Each plunger is required to fundraise $75 to jump to frozen glory. Plungers can raise additional funds, earning them extra incentives along the way. Each plunge is a different party you can be part of! You can raise funds in person, online, or a combination of both.

A charitable donation receipt will be issued by Special Olympics Alberta for donations over $25 or more. Please ensure donors complete their contact info or pledge form for a receipt to be issued.

Your pledge money and forms can be submitted on the day of the plunge during registration. Details about submission and registration will be posted on your event page.

How does your plunge make a difference?

Every plunge makes a difference to more than 3,300 Special Olympics Alberta athletes. Special Olympics Alberta is dedicated to enriching the lives of Albertans with intellectual disabilities through the transformative power and joy of sport. Programs cater to all ages and a wide range of abilities.

Thanks to a team of over 1,000 unsung volunteer heroes, Special Olympics Alberta sports programs take place in our province each and every day. For more information, visit,

About the Law Enforcement Torch Run

Without the support of the Law Enforcement Torch Run, there would be no Polar Plunge.

Plunges are a part of the year-round fundraising through the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Alberta. Law enforcement torch run members across the province raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics Alberta.

These dedicated men and women are the energy and effort behind many of our events and programs. Be sure to give them a big THANK YOU when you see them at your plunge or other events. We couldn’t do it without them! For more information, visit
